Why I Created Hill House Decor: A Journey to Beauty Without Compromise
When I look back on the last few years of my life, I see a whirlwind—a beautiful, chaotic mix of motherhood, work, and the constant quest to create a home that feels like a sanctuary. As a 40-year-old mother of three (a lively four-year-old, a sweet seven-month-old baby, and a cat who thinks he’s the boss), my days are full of joyful chaos. Amidst it all, I found myself yearning for a home that could reflect both calm and beauty—a space that felt warm, modern, and welcoming, without becoming one more thing on my endless to-do list.
The idea for Hill House Decor came to me gradually, through the simple, everyday moments that fill my life. I’ve always loved fresh flowers. Their vibrant colors, soft textures, and natural elegance brought so much joy to our home. But there was one small problem—or rather, several. My husband, my kids, and even our cat are highly sensitive to pollen. Every time I brought home a bouquet, our house would quickly turn into a chorus of sneezes, sniffles, and watery eyes. It wasn’t worth the discomfort, so I stopped buying fresh flowers altogether.
At first, I tried replacing them with houseplants, but as much as I loved the idea of greenery, I quickly realized that I just didn’t have the time to care for them properly. Between managing work and the demands of my little ones, the last thing I needed was another living thing to keep alive. What I needed was beauty and simplicity—a way to create a warm, inviting home that didn’t require hours of maintenance. That’s when I discovered faux flowers.
My first experience with faux flowers was a revelation. The quality had come such a long way—soft petals, rich colors, and lifelike details that made me do a double-take. They didn’t just look good; they were practical. No watering, no allergens, and no fading. They stayed as beautiful as the day I brought them home, no matter how hectic life got.
But as I began to fill my home with these lovely creations, I noticed something was missing. Many of the faux flowers available lacked a sense of thoughtfulness—they felt mass-produced, too perfect, almost cold. I wanted something more: flowers that captured the imperfect beauty of nature and the ease of modern design. Flowers that could fool the bees but still fit seamlessly into a busy family’s life.
That’s how Hill House Decor was born. Inspired by my own home in the hills of California, it became my mission to create faux flowers and decor that blend beauty, sustainability, and practicality. Each piece is designed with the busy, modern woman in mind—someone who loves a stylish home but doesn’t have hours to spare. Our flowers are crafted from high-quality, sustainable materials, and they’re made to last. They’re for moms like me, who juggle work and family but still want a space that feels calm, elegant, and uniquely theirs.
Hill House Decor is more than a brand to me; it’s a reflection of my journey. It’s about creating beauty without compromise and helping others find joy in their homes—whether they’re wrangling toddlers, rushing to meetings, or simply looking for a little moment of peace in a busy day. From my family to yours, I hope these pieces bring as much warmth and happiness to your home as they have to mine.
